Patrick Svitek is a national political reporter based in Washington, D.C.

Svitek works as a politics breaking news reporter for The Washington Post, which he joined in February 2024.
Svitek previously covered Texas politics for nearly a decade. He worked at the Texas Tribune from 2015-2024. He previously was with the Houston Chronicle’s Austin bureau.
Svitek graduated in 2014 from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism. Before moving to DC, he lived in San Antonio for three years and in Austin for seven years before that.
Svitek currently lives in DC with his wife Camille and chihuahua Murphy.
